Begin at the Beginning
The White Rabbit put on his spectacles. “Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?” he asked.
“Begin at the beginning,” the King said very gravely, “and go on till you come to the end: then stop.”
This quote has stayed with me for years now. It first came into my life when I received a notebook with this quote on the front from my very first manager at my very first internship in a purple-themed marketing agency in Wickford, RI - my hometown. Begin at the beginning.
I thought this quote was rather odd and obvious, yet I kept searching for the meaning. At 22, with a year of college still ahead of me, I had no idea where my career path would take me. I was about to graduate with three majors in Marketing, French and International Business and I assumed I'd end up working in France.
Spoiler alert - I never made it to France. I happened to meet a boy a few weeks before graduation and here I am in Rhode Island. I can't complain, France wasn't meant to be at that time and I'm so grateful for the path I've taken. Now that I'm ready to embark on my own business, I finally understand what it means to begin at the beginning. I hope I can help you and your small business embrace this too.
